Humans and Hadlin: A Shared Legacy

Humans: Adaptable and Ambitious

The Human race is known for its adaptability and indomitable will. Spreading across the realm of Dracanus, Humans have established themselves in nearly every environment. From frigid tundras and scorching deserts, to lush forests and craggy mountains, they often encroach on the lands of other species both friendly and hostile.

Their diversity of cultures and craftsmanship often rivals or even surpasses that of other species. While they may lack the mastery exhibited by longer-lived species, their determination and drive frequently make them formidable equals. Humans are seen by many races as childlike, greedy, grasping and impatient, however this shorter lifespan has merely increased their determination, their ingenuity and their ability to adapt and grow stronger through adversity. Their drive, tenacity and numbers ensure that they will create a legacy for themselves as they seize every moment to write themselves into the lore of the world.

Hadlin: Farmer Folk and Merchants

The Hadlin are a species often mistaken for beardless Dwarves or plump Gnomes. They are a proud and easygoing people who tend to dwell among rolling hills, where they delve into the earth to create their homes and plant their fields and orchards.

Hadlin insist that they share a distant relation to humans, worshiping the same gods and living in the same regions. They are known for sharing commerce and agriculture with the "big folk."

Hadlin prefer the comforts of home and hearth, avoiding danger and adventure as a rule. They are excellent merchants and farmers, celebrated for their love of food and their exceptional cooking skills.

Their culture is steeped in tradition and family values. Hadlin homes are large and designed to accommodate many sons, daughters, spouses, and a multitude of children. Rarely do Hadlin live alone, as they cherish the companionship of family to share meals, gossip, and help run their businesses and farms.

A Shared History

While Humans and Hadlin have distinct origins, appearances, and lifestyles, their histories and communities have been intertwined for centuries. Hadlin often provide much of the agricultural needs of human societies and can be found running all manner of shops and businesses within human cities and communities. They frequently hire Humans to act as guards and law enforcement, as they tend to avoid such professions themselves.

In less reputable circles, Hadlin are sometimes drawn to roles within thieves' guilds, leveraging their small stature and unassuming appearance to serve as fences or swindlers. Their size and cleverness even allow them to pose as human children, enabling them to carry out schemes with surprising ease. While such activities are not widespread, they contribute to the Hadlin's reputation as both resourceful and adaptable, even in morally gray pursuits.

Rarely do communities exist where Humans and Hadlin are completely intermixed. More commonly, Human settlements are built near Hadlin communities, or Hadlin establish their homes in hills and fields close to human civilizations. This proximity enables effective trade and collaboration while maintaining their respective cultural distinctions.
